Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the Cardamom hills in Idukki district of Kerala. The sanctuary was declared Tiger Reserve in the year 1978 under the project Tiger. Sprawled over an area of 777 sq km, Periyar is one of an important tiger reserve of India, which had put great efforts to save the ferocious beast – Tiger. With an efficient management, Periyar Tiger Reserve has turned out to be repository of rare, endangered and endemic fauna and flora species.
