Kaziranga National Park

Located in the heart of Assam, Kaziranga National Park spreads to two districts of the state – Nagaon and Golaghat. The Kaziranga National Park is spread in area of 429 sq km, covering the Ghorakati forest range office and Bagori forest range office. Kaziranga Sanctuary inhabits two-third of world's one-horned Rhinoceroses and promises every tourist an eventful holiday experience.

Fauna of Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park is an unspoilt national habitat for variety of wildlife. It houses various species of fauna like eastern swamp deer, gaur, sambar, Chinese and Indian Pangolin, Indian Tigers, Leopards, Sloth Bear, spotted Greenshanks and black-bellied Terns, Bengal Fox, Monocled Cobra, Monitor Lizards, russell's Viper, and many more. But the prime attraction of Kaziranga National Park is the One horned Rhino which you will not see in any other park of India.

Kaziranga Sanctuary houses 546 species of flora. The large area of Kaziranga National Park constitutes three major types of flora species - tropical semi-evergreen forests, tropical wet evergreen forests and tall thickets of elephant grass and short grasses.

Avifauna of Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park provides shelter to numerous species of birds. Birdwatchers can spot exotic avifauna species such as bar headed Geese, Bengal adjutant Stork, Pelicans, whistling Teal, endangered Floricans and many more.

Jeep and Elephant Safaris in Kaziranga National Park
The forest department of Kaziranga National Park does not provide the facility of Jeep safari. Visitors can hire the vehicle at Kohora Chowk or arrange through their hotel. Strict times are fixed for the jeep safari by the forest Department in Kaziranga Sanctuary. People can enjoy elephant safari from early morning and continue for two hours, spotting numerous wildlife in their natural habitat. Elephant safari covers Hole path, Baguri, Arimarah, Kohora Central path and Mihimukh.

Best time to visit Kaziranga National Park is from November to May.

How to reach Kaziranga National Park
By Air: The nearest airport from the Kazinranga India is at Guwathati, situated at a distance of 217 kms from the park.

By Rail: The closest railhead is at Furkating, located at a distance of 75 km from Kaziranga National Park.

By Road: National highway no. 37 connects Kaziranga National Park with other parts of the country. Regular private and ASTC buses ply from Guwahati, Tezpur and Upper Assam.
